Gardens “Grow” Good Neighbors
Celebrate the first day of summer by touring gardens and visiting with neighbors. The Annual WPHA Garden Tour will be held this Saturday, June 21st from 1pm-4pm rain or shine. This event lends itself to impromptu block parties! Take the tour and earn chances to win a $25 gift certificate from Soil Service Garden Center. The more gardens you tour, the greater your chance of winning. Seed packets will also be distributed at each host site. Tour all four gardens and you’ll be able to “grow” your own salad!
WPHA is sponsoring refreshments for the event, but we also encourage kids in the neighborhood to connect with the host home nearest to them and sell lemonade and cookies out front.
This year we are offering a “two-for-one” as neighboring homes on West 72nd Terrace decided to host together.
The following WPHA neighbors have volunteered to host:
The Behr Home, 1033 West 71st Terrace Features a pond, waterfalls and an array of beautiful plantings this oasis demonstrates hours of hard work by the homeowner
The McNally Home, 7236 Belleview Lovingly transformed to offer a huge variety of flowers, a taste of urban gardening with raspberries, purple beans, squashes and herbs, as well as limestone-style borders crafted from reclaimed demolished sidewalk
The Niermann Home, 1247 West 72nd Terrace A dazzling display of color in the front leads to a hidden surprise garden in the back, an incredible use of minimal space by creative homeowners
The Dyer Home, 1251 West 72nd Terrace Features an in-the-ground pool with a waterfall, gorgeous tiling and plantings throughout with an upper deck addition in progress
Come out and enjoy the fun and be sure to thank our hosts! |
