Junior Board Members

Many organizations are finding great benefit in harnessing the ideas and enthusiasm of upper level high school students who have an interest in their organization.  This also benefits the students by providing a mentoring experience and a chance to learn about the political process by interacting with local businesses, city government, and other organizations. It’s a win/win situation for all.

Quite a few students now serve on the Board of Directors of various non-profit agencies in our area. WPHA would like to offer this same opportunity to junior or senior  high school students who need community service hours, who have an interest in civic affairs or who want to develop their communication or leadership skills for their future career.

Candidates are expected to manage or assist with a project and to attend monthly meetings lasting about an hour. Call Pat O’Boyle, Board President, 361-6705 for more information

Dumpster Day

Saturday August 20th

Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church

74th and Mercier

8:00 - 11:00 a.m.

(or until the dumpsters are full)

This event is open to members who’ve paid their dues for 2005. You can pay on the day of the event if you bring your checkbook along with your items to be discarded. See one of the volunteers working the event to make your payment. Remember that Mercier is a one-way street going southbound only.

There will be two dumpsters provided. One will be only for yard waste such as leaves and tree limbs. No grass clippings will be accepted. The other is for oversize items like construction debris. No tires or Haz-Mat items such as antifreeze, batteries, oil or paint can be thrown into this dumpster. No commercial size loads or trailers will be accepted.

Again, the event will end when the dumpsters are full, so if you like sleeping in on Saturday, you may find you miss out. Come early!  (P.S. We need volunteers to help with the second larger Dumpster Day to be held November 12th at two locations and which will include a Haz-Mat dumpster as well. Call Michelle at 444-2159 or Email wpha@lycos.com to volunteer for the November event)    Next Page
