Kids’ Planting Day at Hale Cook School
73rd St. at Pennsylvania Saturday, October 1st 10:00 a.m. |
|
Kids and parents, come join us for an hour or so to help plant shade loving perennials and bulbs at the front entrance of the school. Kids can learn some basic gardening skills while improving their community, and can make new friends from around the neighborhood. Bring a trowel, rake or shovel and help us make this much-neglected property look its’ best. Each child who participates in Kids’ Planting Day will get a packet of seeds to take home and start a garden of their very own.
We’ll be planting hostas, daffodil and narcissus bulbs, mums, and lots of other colorful things to make the school look great now, and even better next spring. We still need more of you to help by digging up and dividing your shade loving plants for the school. Call Alison Baker at 816-822-2006 after September 19th if you can donate some plants for this project. |

Annual Meeting
Broadway United Methodist Church 406 W. 74th Street 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11th |
|
Join us at the annual meeting and meet some of your neighbors and the WPHA Board members, share your concerns, ask questions, and learn more about your community. Michael Shaw, manager of the Solid Waste Division of KCMO, will be one of our speakers who’ll give a short presentation and answer questions.
We’ll have a raffle for door prizes donated by local merchants and cider and cookies to snack on. We’re also providing babysitting service for parents who’d like to attend the meeting but have young children.
We’re going to conduct our food drive to benefit Harvesters again this year. Those who donate to it will be entered into a raffle at the end of the food drive. Local merchants have donated larger prizes valued about $50 each to encourage us to be generous. We have more than one way to swap donations for raffle tickets during the drive, but the easiest is to bring your items or check made payable to Harvesters to the annual meeting and get your raffle tickets then. Double tickets for the Harvesters raffle if you make it easy on us and help us jump start the food drive by bringing your donations to the meeting.
We need volunteers to donate about an hour’s time to help with the food drive. Call Michelle 444-2159 if you can help with this worthy cause. (No walking, heavy lifting, or making phone calls involved). |
