city of waste management

·          The regularly scheduled day for trash pick-up for Ward Parkway Homes Associations is on Thursday. Trash should be put at the curb by 7:00 a.m. for pickup that same day.

·          If a holiday falls in a week, trash pick-up is on Friday. The city observes these holidays for 2007.

New Year’s - January 1

Martin Luther King Birthday - January 15

Presidents’ Day - February 19

Memorial Day - May 28

Independence Day - July 4

Labor Day - September 3

Veterans’ Day - November 9

Thanksgiving - November 22

Christmas - December 25

·          Trash should not be put at the curb before 3:00 the day before to cut down on the time dogs could roam the streets and tear open trash bags.

·          Each address is limited to two bags per week. Twice a year each address has a one week amnesty in which any number of bags can be put out. Those weeks are those following the Fourth of July and Christmas. Any other week, you would need a “bag tag” costing $1.00 each for each bag over two.

·          You will need a blue recycling bin for your recylables. You can get a free bin from the city by calling the Action Center. Additional bins can be purchased at Westlake Hardware and Price Chopper locations in the city.

·          Leaves and brush are picked up normally once in the spring and once in the fall.

See the chart below for where to recycle the most common items. The closest regional recycling center near WPHA is on the campus of UMKC at 48th and Forest (one block east of Troost). The citywide recycling centers are at 4701 Deramus Avenue and at the corner of 435 and Raytown Road.
