WPHA Annual Garage Sale Friday June 8th and Saturday June 9th
It’s time to clean out those basements, attics and closets to get ready for the annual neighborhood garage sale. We’ll post signs a week before the event and will place ads in the KC Star and Wednesday Magazine. Each homeowner can set the time and days to participate, based on what works best for you.
In addition, those willing to do so, are asked to bring their leftover items to Broadway United Methodist Church for a “free for all” the following weekend, where needy families can browse among the leftovers for clothes for their children, items for their homes, books to read and more. More details about that later. |

Free Web Ad for your Garage Sale
Each homeowner participating can have an ad up to 50 words in length. We’ll post all the ads on our website. You can list specific things you have, or just general categories, and the dates and times of your sale.
Those holding a sale can print off multiple copies of all the ads to pass out to shoppers, or just one to post near your checkout table, so people can see what great bargains might be found at other houses in WPHA.
Ads can be submitted anytime between now and June 5th to wphakc@hotmail.com.
For those of us who’d rather shop a garage sale than have one, Tower Homes Association and Waldo Homes Association are doing it the same weekend we are. Those areas run from 75th to 85th, and Wornall to Holmes approximately.

Top Tips for a Great Garage Sale
1. Be organized. Put like items together, such as kids’ clothes, books, kitchen items, men’s clothes etc. 2. Make sure each item is marked with either a price or a color code that relates to a price/color sign. 3. Have lots of change on hand, both silver and one dollar bills. People hit the ATM before they come. 4. Put out a box of “free” stuff, which can be too shabby or weird to sell, or odd pieces/parts. 5. Draw the shoppers in. Hang a few things on the fence, put tables in the driveway leading back etc. 6. Have some old newspapers and grocery sacks to wrap up breakables and corral small items. 7. Have bottled water or juice boxes, and perhaps some treats to sell. Shopping can be hard work. 8. Keep your sense of humor if someone tries to bargain you down, or implies an item is junk. 9. Team up with other neighbors on your block to have a bigger, better sale, drawing more people. 10. Have an extension cord available to try electrics, and a mirror for trying on accessories. |
